Lamborghini set to unveil Le Mans prototype at Goodwood

Lamborghini is set to unveil its Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) race car the following week at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed over a year after formally declaring its participation in hypercar endurance racing.

Lamborghini will offer something unique to the table this year at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed as they plan to participate in some of the biggest endurance races in the world with their new LMDh prototype racecar.

This comes as Lamborghini is aiming to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and other events in 2024.

This year the Italian manufacturer which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, will launch a number of new models including the Revuelto and Huracan Sterrato, which will make their way “up the hill” in Goodwood.

The Lamborghini LMDh prototype will be powered by a newly developed twin-turbo V8 hybrid engine.

Iron Lynx will present the race car at Goodwood alongside Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr, and Head of Motorsport Giorgio Sanna.

When the race car was revealed last year, we already had some knowledge about its greasy parts. The twin-turbo V8 from Lamborghini will have an unparalleled output of 671 horsepower as its first completely designed racing engine.

To meet LMDh requirements, the weight of the vehicle will be restricted to 2,271 lbs and its highest speed will be restricted to 211.3 mph.

Lamborghini collaborated with Liger on the chassis while Bosch supplied the motor generator unit and Williams Advanced Engineering created the battery pack for the LMDh prototype. It is also significant to note that Winkelmann has acknowledged that the race car will have an impact on street-legal supercars, particularly with regard to its hybrid powertrain.

Former Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean will be driving the new LMDh race car as a factory driver for Lamborghini Squadra Corse.

The new LMDh race car will be fully unveiled next to the Lamborghini Lounge at the annual event on Thursday, July 13. It will be displayed among some of Lambo’s best-selling nameplates, such as the Huracan Sterrato and Urus Performante, both of which were confirmed to be sold out through the end of production.
