Red Bull equals the record of most consecutive F1 wins

Red Bull won its 11th straight race with Max Verstappen’s first victory at the British Grand Prix, tying them to the record for the most consecutive F1 wins in the sport’s history.

The Red Bull Formula 1 team now shares the title for the most consecutive F1 wins with McLaren, which swept to victories in the season’s first 11 races in 1988. This comes after Max Verstappen’s victory in the British Grand Prix which extended Red Bull’s winning streak.

The legendary driver duo of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna who were driving for McLaren took a record breaking winning streak after taking 11 straight victories in the 1988 season. The pair also took four more victories in the remaining races of the year while piloting the MP4/4.

However, the woking based outfit’s record was cut short at the Italian Grand Prix, when Ferrari’s Gerhard Berger took advantage of a late-race crash that ruled out Senna, preventing McLaren from continuing their undefeated season.

Verstappen easily won the season finale in Abu Dhabi after being defeated by Mercedes at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in the penultimate race of last year. The Abu Dhabi win marked the beginning of Red Bull’s winning streak as the Austrian team started to completely dominate the field this year.

The Red Bull RB19 has been unbeatable through the first 10 races of the year. Verstappen has won eight races with the RB19 and teammate Sergio Perez has added two more victories in Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia.

In the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull will have the chance to break an existing outright record around the challenging Hungaroring circuit.

In the past, during the height of the V6 turbo-hybrid engine, Mercedes came extremely close to tying the record. However, a 10-race winning streak stretching back to the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix came to an end when Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg crashed on the first lap.

After that incident, the German manufacturer started another unbroken run, but Hamilton’s engine failure in the Malaysian Grand Prix that year caused Mercedes to fall slightly short once more.

Red Bull recorded nine straight victories in both 2013 when Sebastian Vettel won every race over the second half of the season and last season before tying the record in 2023. Verstappen still has a chance to surpass Vettel’s 2013 championship-winning streak of nine straight victories.

At Silverstone, the reigning World Champion achieved six consecutive race wins, surpassing his previous mark of five from the year before, which came to an end in Singapore.
