NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe, will undergo surgery in order to fix a finger that broke during a dirt race on Thursday.
Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe was hurt during a dirt race on Thursday, breaking the middle finger on his left hand.
The injury didn’t stop him from competing in the NASCAR Truck Series dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night, where he finished in seventh place driving the No. 22 Ford for AM Racing, and it won’t stop him from competing in the Cup Series dirt race there on Sunday night, where he is scheduled to start in 14th driving the No. 14 Ford.
But, Briscoe will undergo surgery after tonight’s 250-lap Food City Dirt Race at the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) Bristol, Tennessee oval.
Chase Briscoe is not anticipated to miss any NASCAR Cup Series action as a result of the operation, which he is scheduled to have early this coming week. Since making his series debut at the beginning of the 2021 season, Briscoe has not missed a single race.
Briscoe is in 21st place in the point standings after seven of the 36 races on the 2023 calendar, with his best finish coming at Phoenix Raceway, where he won his first career race in early March.
With Chase Elliott having endured a three-hour procedure after breaking his left tibia in a Colorado snowboarding accident last month, Briscoe’s finger surgery will be the second time a Cup Series driver called Chase has undergone surgery at the start of the 2023 campaign.
Elliott has not raced since late February and continues to be sidelined while recovering.
This evening at 7:00 p.m. ET, Bristol Motor Speedway will begin streaming live coverage of the Food City Dirt Race.
