Joey Logano won the Weather Guard Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol on Saturday night after an amazing part time drive in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion dominated the Saturday Truck Series race on the dirt course at Bristol Motor Speedway from start to finish, winning all three stages and barely facing any competition all through the several restarts.
On Bristol Motor Speedway’s Dirt Track, the 32-year old NASCAR Cup Series champion won the first two stages of the contest, drove 138 of the 150 laps, and finished 1.241 seconds ahead of ThorsSport Racing teammate Ty Majeski.
“My fun meter was pegged tonight,” Logano said on winning the second Truck Series race of his career. “I had a lot of fun out here racing at Bristol.
“The dirt’s a lot of fun… Hopefully, tomorrow is just as good with the other car.”
Logano’s win marks his first truck race of the year with Thorsport Racing as the driver of the No. 66 truck. Majeski could not outperform his teammate despite finishing a strong second.
“He’s really good obviously,” Majewski said after the race. “Just glad we got Thorsport in Victory Lane… Really cool to have all our trucks really run well all day today.”
“I don’t know, I thought maybe at times I could maybe match him on the long runs, starting to flip a little bit… But every time that was happening, we’d get a yellow.
“I don’t know if we could’ve done anything with him… Maybe make a bit nervous, but that would be about it.”
It was not the day for long runs as trucks frequently touched fenders, cut tires, and spun on the wet clay track, resulting in 11 cautions throughout the race’s 64 laps. Logano stayed in the lead for the most of the race to avoid the mayhem behind him.
The Sunday Food City Dirt Race at the half-mile track will see Logano start in position 12 in his No. 22 NASCAR Cup Series car. He won the inaugural Cup Series dirt race here back in 2021.
Two-time Cup winner William Byron finished third in the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Chevrolet followed by Matt Crafton and Grant Enfinger who rounded out the top five. Jake Garcia, Chase Briscoe, Tanner Gray, Kaden Honeycutt, and Matt DiBenedetto rounded out the top ten respectively.
Dirt queen Hailie Deegan, who went as high as third in the early parts of the race, finished one spot ahead of Jonathan Davenport in 14th place.
Zane Smith, the reigning champion who finished 21st after being involved in a three-truck collision on lap 95, is 34 points behind Majeski in the series standings.
