Four teams in line to partner with Porsche

According to sources four teams are competing to partner with Porsche in Formula 1.

A well-known Dutch F1 broadcaster named Jack Plooij claimed on Ziggo Sport that Williams is in talks with the Volkswagen-owned German sports automaker.

Porsche and Red Bull had planned to enter the sport starting in 2026, but those negotiations fell through because the automaker demanded 50 percent ownership.

Though it was previously believed that Porsche had lost interest in F1, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem confirmed last week that discussions are still ongoing.

While Auto Motor und Sport believes that Red Bull-owned Alpha Tauri may still be in the running, Plooij feels that a 50% buyout deal with Williams is almost done.

Despite Haas’ tight historical ties to Ferrari, journalist Andreas Haupt also named the American squad as a potential contender.

Andretti’s legendary father Mario has indicated that plans are still being developed even though the sport seems ambivalent about an eleventh entrant, suggesting that Michael Andretti’s potential F1 team may be an excellent Porsche partner.

“Michael is moving forward as if he had received authorisation to put a team on the grid,” Mario Andretti said in Austin, according to France’s Auto Hebdo. “A lot of people don’t hear much about it, but we’re working every day to try to get an official deal and moving forward as if we already have it.”

“Michael and his partners decided to take this risk. It shows how badly we want it to happen.”

Given that there is little time to prepare for the implementation of the new engine regulations, it is thought that Porsche is currently discussing a time beyond 2026 in F1.

Another German automaker owned by VW, Audi, has already made the decision to enter Formula 1 in 2026. Sauber may be introduced as Audi’s 2026 team partner in an event on Wednesday that involves a rumored 75 percent takeover and complete rebranding.
