Marc Marquez cleared for motorcycle training ahead of MotoGP return

In preparation for his eventual comeback to the MotoGP, Marc Marquez has been given the all-clear to resume motorcycle training, his Honda team announced on Wednesday night.

Since May’s Italian Grand Prix, the six-time MotoGP world champion has been sidelined after undergoing another surgery on his right arm to enable him to ride more naturally. His injured humerus rotated to such an extreme degree that he was unable to control his arm properly while riding his RC213-V.

In order to possibly return to racing action before the end of the 2022 MotoGP season, Marquez has spent the last three months concentrating on recovery and light training.

The Spaniard joined Honda at the Austrian GP in an effort to reacclimate himself to the Japanese manufacturer’s project after his prolonged absence.

Dr. Sanchez Sotelo, who oversaw Marquez’s treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, said the announcement of his return to motorcycle testing is a significant step forward in his recuperation. Marquez’s most recent CT scans also revealed he had regained a significant amount of motion as well as a complete bone union.

“Today, I had the opportunity to evaluate Marc Marquez in regard to his surgical procedure recently performed at Mayo Clinic,” said Sanchez. “Fortunately, Marc Marquez has regained a great arc of motion and has recovered well from a muscular perspective as well.”

“Today, he underwent radiographs and a CT scan that show complete bone union.”

Honda said it will now evaluate the next steps required to advance Marquez’s recuperation and eventual return to competitive racing.

The team will be excited to see him back in action because its current riding lineup, which includes Pol Espargaro, Stefan Bradl, plus LCR satellite pilots Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Marquez, is struggling to get any promise out of the erratic RC213-V.

Despite not racing for three months, Marc maintains Honda’s top classification in the riders standings. The 59-time MotoGP race winner is currently ranked 15th overall and is 15 points ahead of the next-closest Honda rider, Nakagami. This clearly demonstrates the quartet’s challenges.
